Arteemaxx® 100 contains artesunate, a water-soluble derivative of artemisinin with potent activity against Plasmodium parasites. After administration, artesunate is rapidly converted to its active metabolite, dihydroartemisinin (DHA), which acts against the blood stages of malaria parasites and rapidly reduces parasite burden.

Artesunate is used in the treatment of malaria, including infections caused by Plasmodium falciparum. To reduce the risk of treatment failure and development of drug resistance, oral artesunate generally should not be used as antimalarial monotherapy; treatment should follow current clinical guidelines and typically involves an appropriate artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT).

Treatment selection, dosage, combination therapy, and duration should always be determined by a qualified healthcare professional based on the type and severity of malaria, geographic resistance patterns, patient age and weight, and other clinical factors.
