Acacia Fiber

Acacia fiber is a gentle, well-tolerated prebiotic that supports beneficial gut bacteria, promotes healthy digestion, and helps maintain regular bowel function. By encouraging the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), it supports gut barrier health, balanced immune function, and overall digestive stability. It is often a good option for children with sensitive digestive systems or chronic inflammatory conditions.

Acacia fiber acts as a gentle prebiotic that nourishes beneficial gut bacteria, particularly Bifidobacteria. Unlike many other fibers, it ferments slowly in the colon, leading to the gradual production of beneficial short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) while supporting healthy and balanced stool formation. Because of its slow fermentation profile, acacia fiber is often better tolerated and less likely to cause bloating or digestive discomfort compared to faster-fermenting fibers.

Within the AN Protocol, acacia fiber can play an important role in supporting children with autism, PANS/PANDAS, and chronic inflammatory conditions. By helping restore a healthier microbiome, it may contribute to reduced intestinal irritation, lower levels of gut-driven immune activation, and improved digestive regularity. Its gentle nature makes it particularly suitable for children who are sensitive to stronger fibers or who experience mixed bowel patterns and mild SIBO tendencies when introduced gradually.

A key benefit of acacia fiber is its ability to promote the production of short-chain fatty acids such as acetate and butyrate. These compounds help maintain the integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier, support balanced immune function within the gut, reduce low-grade inflammation, and contribute to overall digestive stability and resilience.
